John married Janet Semple (b. Glassford, Lanarkshire c.1780), daughter of William Semple and Agnes Tennant. They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Hamilton on 26 April 1812.
John and Janet are at Knowetop Farm, Hamilton, Lanarkshire on the 1841 Census and in Meikle Earnock, Hamilton on the 1851 Census.
John and Janet died within a few hours of each other in Meikle Earnock on 3 March 1857, age 76 and 77 respectively.
