Michael Smyth and Catherine Lee‘s places and dates of birth and their parents’ names are not known.

Catherine is the name on her son James’s record of death, but birth records have her name as Ann. This could be for a different couple, however Michael Smyth’s occupation of Lather or Lath Maker suggests they are the same.

It is recorded in Dublin South that a Michael Smyth of Capel Street, widower, Lath Splitter died on 11 April 1916, age 77. If this is the above Michael Smyth, it puts his year of birth as 1838 or 1839.
