Alexander returned to Scotland in August 1906, arriving in Glasgow on the S.S. Pretorian from Boston, Massachusetts.

Alexander is next recorded on the passenger manifest of the S.S Astoria, departing from Glasgow on 16 March 1907 and arriving in New York on 26 March 1907; however he is also recorded on the manifest of the S.S. Columbia, departing from Glasgow on 23 March 1907 and arriving in New York on 1 April 1907. Both Alexanders are from Dunfermline, 21 years old, 5’10” in height, both Carpenters, both had previously been in New York in 1906. The earlier record has his last known address as 117 Pittencrieff Street, the later simply states Dunfermline. One explanation is that he cancelled, or otherwise missed the earlier sailing. There are tick marks against all but two of the passengers listed on the manifest, one of which is Alexander. These might indicate passengers who actually sailed on the ship.

Alexander returned to Scotland, departing from Halifax on the S.S Pretorian and arriving in Glasgow on 6 October 1914.
