Andrew Hepburn – Jean Batchelor

Andrew Hepburn, born in Arngask, Perthshire on 2 February 1793, son of William Hepburn and Janet Ruthven.

Jean Batchelor, born in Abernrthy, Perthshire c.1791, daughter of Andrew Batchelor and Ann Webster.

Andrew and Jean were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Arngask on 7 November 1813.

Andrew and Jean are in Heughend, Orwell, Kinross-shire on the 1841 and 1851 Census. Andrew’s occupation is Labourer.

Andrew is in Heughend on the 1861 Census and in Main Street, Kinross on the 1871 Census.

CHILDREN

Jean Hepburn, place and date of birth not known.

There is a Jean Hepburn born in Arngask, Fife on 1 September 1814, daughter of Andrew Hepburn.

Jean married John Bain, or at least had a child by him. That is about as much as is known about Jean and John, with only the presence of their son Alexander to mark their existence.

Jean’s connection to Andrew and Jean is based on her son Alexander being described as their ‘Grandson’ on the 1851 Census.

Jacobina Hepburn, born in Orwell, Kinross-shire c.1816.

Jacobina had a daughter to Robert Wilson, Joiner, but never married.

Jacobina is in Heughend on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census and in Main Street, Kinross on the 1871 Census. Her occupation is initially Hand Loom Weaver but is later a Linen Factory Weaver.

Jacobina died in South Kilduff, Fossoway, Kinross-shire on the 18 November 1879, age 63.

Laurance Hepburn, born in Orwell, Kinross-shire on 5 September 1836

Laurance is in Heughend on the 1841 Census and possibly in Balmanno Bothy, Dron, Perthshire on the 1851 Census.

Laurance married Catherine Innes (b. Dron, Perthshire c. October 1826), daughter of Alexander Innes and Ann Rattray. They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Arngask, Fife on 6 June 1852.

Laurance and Catherine are in Path of Condie, Forgandenny, Kinross-shire on the 1861 Census, in Fossoway and Tulliebole, Kinross-shire on the 1871 Census and in Railway Gate House, Fossoway and Tulliebole on the 1881 Census.

Catherine died in Cowdenbeath, Fife on 20 December 1884, age 58.

Laurance is at 24 James Place, Dunfermline, Fife on the 1891 Census and at 89 1/2 Baldridgeburn, Dunfermline on the 1901 Census.

Laurance died in Oakfield, Kelty, Fife on 29 August 1911, age 77.

DEATHS

Jean died in Heughend on 14 December 1857, age 67.

Andrew died in Milnathort, Kinross-shire on 27 December 1871, age 78.
