James Dickie – Margaret Wilson

James Dickie, son of Alexander Dickie and Marion Barr. Date and place of birth unknown.

James is assumed to be Alexander and Marion’s son because he was there at the time of his marriage, his youngest son Gavin was a Farmer at Killochhead Farm, where James’s brother Francis was born, and his eldest son is named Alexander.

Margaret Wilson‘s parents and place and date of birth are unknown.

Margaret was from the nearby Bargour Farm, some miles west of Killochhead.

James and Margaret were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Mauchline on 20 February 1798.

CHILDREN

Janet Dickie, born in Mauchline, Ayrshire on 6 December 1798.

Janet married William Thomson. They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Mauchline on 16 July 1819.

Janet is possibly widowed, a Pauper in Bank, Galston, Ayrshire on the 1841 Census. On the 1851 and 1861 census she is in Henrietta Street, Galston and her occupation is Hand Sewer.

Janet died in Henrietta Street on 14 February 1875 age 76.

Alexander Dickie, born in Mauchline, Ayrshire on 29 June 1800.

William Dickie, born in Mauchline, Ayrshire on 1 July 1805.

The Old Parish Records entry is for James Dickie, but no other trace of James can be found, therefore it is assumed that the record is in error, or that James was known as William.

William married Jean Watt (b. Millwell, Glassford, Lanarkshire c.1815), daughter of Thomas Watt and Janet Reid. They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on 16 March 1834.

William and Jean are in Leaburn, East Kilbride on the 1841 Census, where William’s occupation is Wright.

They are at Rutheran Farm, Glassford, Lanarkshire on the 1851 and 1861 Census.

William died at Rutheran Farm on 16 October 1861, age 56.

Jean is in the Free Church Manse, Glassford on the 1871 Census and in Walston Place Farmhouse, East Kilbride on the 1881 Census.

Jean died at Shawtonhill Farm, Glassford on 1 June 1886, age 71.

John Dickie, born in Mauchline, Ayrshire on October 1807.

Gavin Dickie, born in Mauchline, Ayrshire c.1810.

Gavin married Flora McKenzie (b. Kilmory, Bute c.1811). They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Mauchline on 17 January 1834.

Gavin and Flora are at Killochhead Farm, Mauchline on the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 Census.

Gavin died at Killochhead Farm on 10 August 1888, age 78.

Flora is at Killochhead Farm on the 1891 Census. She died in Mauchline in 1895, age 85.
