John Bain‘s place and date of birth and parents’ names are not known.
Jane Hepburn‘s place and date of birth is not known. She is the daughter of Andrew Hepburn and Jean Batchelor.
John and Jane are remarkably elusive. There are possible references for both on the 1841 Census, but nothing in subsequent years. The only evidence for their existence is their son Alexander’s marriage and death records.
According to Alexander’s marriage record of 1863, Jane was deceased at that time but John was not.
