John Fleming – Janet Fleming

John Fleming and Janet Fleming’s parents and places and dates of birth are unknown. The only knowledge of them is taken from their son Hugh’s death certificate. It is possible that Janet’s surname may not actually be Fleming; however a John Fleming and Janet Fleming were proclaimed for marriage in Avondale, Lanarkshire on 17 April 1768.¹National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1768 Marriages, 621 (Avondale), 10/273 In usual parsimonious Avondale fashion, the absolute minimum of detail is recorded in the Old Parish Registers.

Hugh died at Low Ploughland Farm on 15 February 1855, age 81.⁷National Records of Scotland, 1855 Deaths, 621/19

Mary died at Low Ploughland Farm  on 22 January 1856, age 70.⁸National Records of Scotland, 1856 Deaths, 621/10
