John Fleming – Janet Fleming

John Fleming and Janet Fleming’s parents and places and dates of birth are unknown. The only knowledge of them is taken from their son Hugh’s death certificate. It is possible that Janet’s surname may not actually be Fleming; however a John Fleming and Janet Fleming were proclaimed for marriage in Avondale, Lanarkshire on 17 April 1768.1National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1768 Marriages, 621 (Avondale), 10/273 In usual parsimonious Avondale fashion, the absolute minimum of detail is recorded in the Old Parish Registers.
