John Frood – Mary McIlquham

image_pdf

John Frood, son of Alexander Frood and Ann Wilson.

Depending on which source is used, John was born either in Douglas, Lanarkshire c.1805 or Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, c.1800. Neither year seems particularly likely as they coincide with brothers Alexander (b. 1800) and James (b.1806). It is possible that ‘John’ is one of these two. According to his death certificate, he was born c.1802 which is feasible but it is then odd that his birth is not recorded, unlike the births of all of his known siblings.

Mary McIlquham, born in Baldernock, Stirlingshire and baptised on 28 June 1803, daughter of Walter McIlquham and Marion Williamson.

John and Mary are at Old Kirk Cottage, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire in 1836 at the time of their son’s birth, and on the 1841 and 1851 Census. They are at Cartside Farm, Cathcart, Renfrewshire on the 1861 Census. On the 1871 Census, John is at Cartside and Mary is at Meadowvale, Clyde Street, Partick with her sister May.
