John Wilson – Helen Brownlie

JOHN WILSON and HELEN BROWNLIE‘s parents and dates and places of birth are unknown.

John was born c.1731 and Helen was born c.1744 according to the inscription on their gravestone.

John and Helen were proclaimed to be married in the parish of Stonehouse, Lanarkshire on 2 January 1762 and in the parish of Avondale, Lanarkshire on 3 January 1762.

CHILDREN

ANDREW WILSON, born at Carnduff Farm, Avondale, Lanarkshire on 15 January 1783.

Andrew married Ann Young (b. Avondale c.1793). They were proclaimed to be married in the parish of Avondale on 27 November 1813.

Andrew died at Cloverhill Farm, Avondale on 9 July 1856.

DEATHS

John died on 8 November 1781. According to his gravestone, he was a ‘Portioner in Curnduff’ (sic) and was 50 years old at the time of his death. Unfortunately, this date is 15 months before the birth of his son Andrew. It is possible that his gravestone was carved much later than his death and after his wife’s death in 1811. The lettering is too consistent for being 30 years apart. 1781 is either an error, or an incomplete 1784.

Helen died on 16 July 1811, age 67.
