Thomas Balfour McWilliam, born in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire on 4 December 1841, son Thomas McWilliam and Margaret Thom.
The origin of Thomas’s middle name is a bit of a mystery. There is a James Balfour living next door to Thomas’s parents on the 1841 Census.
Thomas is in Lightburn, Cambuslang on the 1851 Census, and possibly at High Carbarns Farm, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire on the 1861 Census, employed as a Ploughman. At the time of his marriage in June 1865, Thomas is at Wheatlandhead Farm, Blantyre.
Christina Fleming, born in Blantyre, Lanarkshire c. March 1841, daughter of James Fleming and Agnes Hamilton.
Christina is at Knowetop Farm, Hamilton, Lanarkshire on the 1841 Census, where her age is given as ‘4 months’. On the 1851 Census she is possibly in Low Waters, Lanarkshire, employed as a House Servant (at ten years of age!) and on the 1861 Census she is possibly at Barnhill Farm, Blantyre employed as a Dairymaid. At the time of her marriage in June 1865 she is a Farm Servant at Stonefield Farm, Blantyre.
Thomas and Christina were married in Low Waters, Hamilton on 23 June 1865.

Agnes never married. She died at Greenhall Farm on 27 January 1888, age 21.
Margaret McWilliam, born in Hunthill, Blantyre on 16 March 1868.
Margaret is at Greenhall Coachman’s House on the 1871 Census and at Greenhall Farm on the 1881 Census.
Margaret married John Pettigrew (b. Malcolmwood Farm, Blantyre on 18 June 1865) of Malcolmwood Farm, son of William Pettigrew and Elizabeth Imrie, at Greenhall Farm on 29 December 1885.
Margaret and John are at Dysholm Farm, Cambuslang on the 1891 Census and at Malcolmwood Farm on the 1901 Census.
Margaret died at Malcolmwood Farm on 6 October 1923, age 55.
John died at Malcolmwood Farm on 14 December 1945, age 80.
Christina McWilliam, born at Greenhall Farm on 26 April 1869.
Christina is at Greenhall Coachman’s House on the 1871 Census and at Greenhall Farm on the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 Census.
Christina never married. She died at the County Hospital, Cleland, Lanarkshire on 13 November 1950, age 81. Her usual address is given as 107 Stonefield Road, Blantyre.

Thomas and Margaret are at Hallside Farm, Cambuslang on the 1901 Census and at Backrow Farm, East Kilbride on the 1911 Census.
Margaret died at 35 West Port, Lanark, Lanarkshire on 3 June 1950, age 76.
Thomas died at Craigmillar Castle Farm, Midlothian on 6 July 1956, age 84.

James married Johanna (or Joan) Fraser (b. Inverness c.1879), daughter of John Fraser and Isabella McKay, at 143 Norfolk Street, Glasgow on 3 June 1903.
James died at Greenhall Cottage on 10 November 1940, age 66.
Johanna died in Blantyre on 5 April 1945, age 75.
Janet McWilliam, born at Greenhall Farm on 13 May 1876.
Janet is at Greenhall Farm on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 Census.
Janet married John Scott (b. East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on 31 March 1866) of Tarland, East Kilbride, son of William Scott and Margaret Johnston, at Greenhall Farm on 17 June 1925. John is a grandson of Alexander Johnston and Agnes Dick.
Janet died at 22 Brouster Hill, East Kilbride on 20 April 1959, age 82.
DEATHS
Thomas died at Greenhall Farm on 28 August 1917, age 75.
Christina died at Greenhall Farm on 28 March 1932, age 91.
